"Building a Comprehensive Trail System to Enhance the Quality of Life in Lewis County"
Blazing the Trail . .
During the summer of 2006, a group of citizens in Lewis County met with the vision of improving our county and making it more welcoming. The common theme derived from that meeting was to create a trail system that would leave a lasting legacy for generations to come, and that this trail system would link up with adjacent trail systems statewide. This group of citizens comprised of city and state officials, local business owners, Centralia/Chehalis Chamber of Commerce, and private citizens has developed into a very active and motivated team. A Lewis County Community Trails Plan has been developed to bring all entities together and focus on achieving this goal. Living in Lewis County, we love and understand the importance of our environment. We know the benefits of recreational opportunities, transportation, and economic growth potential, and we have seen the success that other communities have had with this type of endeavor. Our hope is to develop an inter-connecting trail system from the Chehalis Western Trail in Tenino to the Willipa Hills Trail that stretches 56 miles from Chehalis to the South Bend connection and beyond. We are confident that through the cooperation and support of citizens, business owners and governmental agencies, we can forge partnerships that can mirror other successful cooperative efforts in Washington state.
