Airport Levee Trail ready to use

The levee protecting the airport from flooding is now  open for use by the public.  It is an important link in the Trans Alta Trail that will eventually  connnect  Centralia and Chehalis with a traffic-free walking/biking route.

The trail is 2 miles in length and is presently a combination of crushed gravel and mowed grass surface.  The trail is a result of cooperation between the Corp of Engineers, the Chehalis/Centralia Airport and Lewis County Community Trails.  The Corp has indicated that it will repair the damage from the 2007 flood by August of 2010, after which the Airport board and LCCT will match funds to complete the widening and gravelling of the  levee surface eventually completing a loop trail approx. 2.5 miles in length.

Sign by Parking Area

There is a new parking lot at the south end of the airport on Airport Road.  A sidewalk along Airport Road leads to the beginning of the levee trail.
